Mrs. Monica Evanchik, my lovely and talented wife, has made an excellent mini-documentary on a US Infantry officer who got wounded in Iraq. In a short three minute piece, she gleans, from hours of interviews and many photos, this soldier’s story of attending West Point, being unexpectedly called back into service, getting wounded, and recuperating and rotating back into his civilian life.
It’s pretty interesting stuff. As is usually the case, a lot of the best stuff gets left on the cutting room floor. There’s a lot left out about the tribulations of his personal life while he was away and recovering, and about how he felt being called back into service. The Old Gray Lady steers clear of the tawdry. She tells his story accurately and fairly and it’s worth a look and listen.
