5 Random Links for Saturday

Here are some stuff I liked. I found it on the Internet.

  1. Google get pwned by eBay: Google tried to steal some of Ebay’s sellers at a recent conference. eBay retaliated by canceling its advertising on Google. The best part? Canceling the advertising lost eBay hardly any business.
  2. “U.S. proposals on visa rules raise fears in Europe”: The story in itself is largely mundane. Travellers to the U.S. who don’t need visas would be required to file travel plans 48 hours before departure. While annoying, it is still a whole lot less annoying than having to apply for a visa. What is notable is the apocalyptic hysterics on sites like Slashdot. Enjoy my own little tete-a-tete with these numbskulls.
  3. One Sentence: “True stories, told in one sentence.” Sort of a verbal equivalent of Post Secret, only not as consistently depressing.
  4. “The High Frontier, Redux“: A very thoughtful examination of how likely the actual human colonization of outer space would be. The limits of technology, the laws of physics, and some good common sense, along with some actual number crunching, gives a dismal outlook for man finding a home away from Earth.
  5. How to Retire at 40: Ah, the magic of frugality and compound interest. How I wish that I had read this 15 years ago.
